I recently was in touch with a very sweet momma who is doing her absolute best to help her diabetic daughter. Little Rosie, at ten months old, found out that her pancreas had died. She was diagnosed with type one diabetes and will be insulin dependent for the rest of her life.
Since Rosie is so young it’s extremely hard to avoid the quick rise and fall of her blood sugars. If it's not treated in time, Rosie is at risk of seizures and they can even become fatal! Rosie's sugars tend to drop very quickly and although she wears a CGM on her arm it may not always be accurate.
Rosie's family is hoping to raise funds for a service dog. The dog costs around $25,000 with the Diabetic Alert Dogs of America, and the dog costs so much because of its extensive training. The dog can even alert Rosie and her parents if her sugar levels are off, while she is sleeping! Diabetic Alert Dogs of America includes everything Rosie will need to start out and even has one on one training with Rosie and her parents for the first week. This dog is very much needed for someone who is so young. It's literally a life or death situation.
There are a few ways you can help little Rosie, and one of them is a super fun event being hosted at Alluring Acres in North Fort Myers!
